The Convent Glen Orleans Wood Community Association currently has three Committees that are managed or chaired by members of the Board of Directors.

The Convent Glen Orleans Wood Environment Committee is focused on helping build a vibrant and sustainable local community where people, plants, and animals live harmoniously together. To achieve this, the committee focuses on environmental issues including addressing and building resilience to climate change, reducing pollution and supporting native ecosystems. Our activities include: annual spring clean-up days, the establishment and care of a native plant pollinator garden at Orleans Wood Elementary School, growing and selling native plant seedlings, Repair Cafes, and information nights with community experts.

In keeping with the Convent Glen-Orléans Wood Community Association’s stated goal of defending the interests of the community it serves, the Bridge Committee’s objective is to inform the residents of our community and the whole east end of all issues inherent in the choice for a location of an interprovincial bridge in the east end between Ottawa and Gatineau.
Our strategy has been to position ourselves and as many people, groups, and organizations as possible as key stakeholders who oppose an interprovincial bridge in the Greenbelt. Since the recent announcement that the Kettle Island option has been selected to move forward through the final required Environmental Impact Assessment and then on to construction to be completed in 2034, the Committee will focus on following that process to its conclusion. Should the upcoming federal election alter these recent announcements and construction plans, the Bridge Committee will work to ensure that candidates representing the city’s east end understand that residents oppose Greenbelt options. Given the significant impact this project could have on the Greenbelt and our community, we’ve created a dedicated website to raise awareness and share important information.

The Bridge Committee members are expressly committed to staying apprised of developments in the process, to providing only factual information to the community, and to ensuring that the people of the east end will be heard.

Our outreach committee aims to grow and nurture a shared sense of community between residents. We are trying to look ahead to the near future and what we’d like to see in the community, in terms of events, activities, and growing our membership (so people are aware of what we do). We also work on communication strategies to help with this goal, both using existing activities like the monthly newsletter, and coming up with new communication and community building ideas. If you have new ideas to do this, we’d love to hear that as well.
