There are several recurring and upcoming events with explicit needs for volunteers from the community to help out. Unless otherwise specified, you can reach out to [email protected] to volunteer.

If you have a neighbour or relative who lives nearby you think may be interested in helping out with one of these events, forward this message or encourage them to join as a member of the community association and sign up to be a volunteer themselves. It’s free and being a member also gets you our monthly newsletter delivered directly to your inbox. We’re also running a friendly membership drive competition, each person you get to register earns you points towards bragging rights.

If you’re looking for other ways you can get involved in the community, check out our ‘CA Starter Kit‘.

Upcoming Events & New Initiatives

Several upcoming and potential events present opportunities to get involved in the planning and execution stages:

  • *Coming Soon* Community BBQ (September 7; 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM): Large-scale events like the annual BBQ require volunteers for setup, coordination, and cleanup. Reach out if you’re able to pitch in.
  • Kidical Mass Bike Ride (September 27; 9:30 – 11:30 AM): This family-focused bike ride will need volunteers to act as marshals and ensure a safe, fun route for the kids. See the link for more details.
  • Repair Cafe (September 27; 2 – 5 PM): The Repair Cafe at Orleans United Church is an excellent opportunity for community members with practical skills. These events rely on volunteers who can help fix broken household items, from textiles to small appliances.
  • *NEW* Pumpkin Alley (Evening of November 1): Very early planning for this, but you can see some details from our event last year to get a sense of what’s coming.

Recurring Event Opportunities

  • Community Cafe – Weekly: Help is needed to run the mobile bike coffee cart on Sunday mornings. You can volunteer for one or more events, or assist with preparation and cleanup. If you’re interested in becoming a “Bike-rista,” please reach out to Arnold at [email protected]. We would like to keep this event going into September and October, but doing this weekly will rely on more volunteers.
  • Pedal and Play Bike Rides – Weekly: This weekly social family bike ride is always looking for backup ride leaders. If you’re interested in assisting with these events, you are encouraged to get in touch with Rob Attrell directly at [email protected]. We’ll do as many rides into the fall as we can, but having backup ride leaders gives us more flexibility.

How to Get Involved

Plan a New Event

The association is always considering new potential events, you can always see what we’ve got going on in our Roadmap. If volunteers are willing to take the lead on planning new events, the association is ready to support community building activities. These events could be something happening soon, or could be something to start planning now for next year.

Possible events that would need community volunteers to organize include:

  • Walking groups,
  • Social nights (for seniors, young adults, professionals, etc),
  • Community Garage Sale
    • This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to take the lead on a popular community event (probably for next year at this point)..

Getting involved now means you can help shape these events from the ground up.

Contact Us

One good way to get involved with community association event planning is to join the Community Forum on Discord, where much of the event planning and discussion takes place. For general inquiries or to share your own ideas, you can always email the association at [email protected].
