First‑Ever Music in the Woods Festival
On July 25th, A Celebration of Community, Culture, and 200 Years of Local History

Get ready to celebrate summer at the inaugural Music in the Woods Summer Festival — a joyful, free, one‑day celebration designed to bring residents together through music, culture, and community spirit. We will be needing all of your energy and help to make this a wonderful (hopefully annual) summer tradition.
Set beside the beautiful riverside parks near the Roy Hobbs Community Centre, the festival will showcase a full lineup of professional musicians, rising stars from local music schools, and bilingual performers who reflect the rich cultural fabric of Orléans. Check out the full lineup of musicians on the festival website https://cgow.ca/event/music-in-the-woods-festival, including the award-winning Mimi O’Bonsawin. But this festival is about much more than music. It’s a full‑day community experience designed for all ages. Families can look forward to kids’ activities, including crafts, games, and a bouncy castle. Food lovers will enjoy delicious offerings from food vendors, while adults can sip local craft beer from Dominion City Brewing. The event promises a lively, welcoming atmosphere where neighbours can relax, connect, and enjoy the best of local talent and local flavour.
This year’s festival also carries special significance: it’s part of the celebration of Ottawa’s 200th anniversary, honouring the history of Bytown, the logging town that eventually became Ottawa. We will profile the history of our community and celebrate the anniversary right here in our neighbourhood. CGOW CA is grateful to be a recipient of the Ottawa 200 Civic Events Funding Program, enabling us to kick off a new festival that promotes neighbours meeting neighbours in their local community and builds resilience and connections.
In order to make this successful, we will need volunteers from the community to help us plan, organize and execute this new festival. Please contact us at [email protected] or through our facebook page to volunteer in any way you can, we will NEED all of you!!!
The CGOW Community Cafe is back!
Sundays at 9:30 AM through the summer in Voyageur Park.

The Community Cafe runs on Sundays between 9:30 and 11 AM in the warmer months in Voyageur Park. There will be a coffee bike cart (with community volunteers playing barista) that will be serving freshly brewed coffee and this year a new baked treats provider, Mary’s bakery providing cookies and brownies, with all proceeds going to help fund and grow more community events for all of us.
Mary’s Bakery is a small scale, home bakery here in Convent Glen specializing in cookies and sourdough bread. Stop by the Cafe in the Park to try some delicious treats and say hi! Weekly preorders also available starting June 7th for pickup through marysbakery.shop.

Growing Curiosity – Teaching Kids About Invasive Plants this Summer
By Emma Marshall

Summer break is here and it’s time to send the kids out for our few warm months. While exploring this summer, consider how children may have the opportunity to discover our lovely neighborhood a bit differently. Invasive species are a local issue, and children and families can play a meaningful role in learning about and addressing these issues.

Scouts: Building the skills for city life
By Matthieu Gagnon

I am currently working on the recruitment for my Scout unit and as part of the exercise, I have been putting some thoughts into the value that the movement brings to kids and adults who participate.
Hidden Routes to Hidden Taste
By Matthieu Gagnon

It is [was] a beautiful day and I was craving Indian food, so I decided to ride to Hidden Taste for their lunch menu, which is good even though I wished the lamb curry plate had some vegetables
Community Engagement
Submit Your Photos Today
The Photo and Video Archive is our attempt at a community-owned, locally-sourced repository of high-quality visuals. By building this crowdsourced repository, we are creating a shared resource that belongs to the neighbourhood.
We are looking for “stock-style” photos and/or video that captures the everyday reality of our corner of Orléans. This includes the beauty of our ravines and river paths, but also the mundane—the intersections we cross, the homes we live in, and the ways we move through the community. You could look to capture something you really love or something you seek to improve. This media allows us to make our perspective visible to the rest of the city.
Contribute Knowledge to your Community
Our new forum is designed to let community residents break out of the algorithmic traps of social media and contribute to a shared knowledge base that reflects community needs and sentiment.
Built using Discourse community software, the CGOW Forum is an online public square for a variety of topics important to our neighbourhoods, and you can even navigate and read the forum without an account.
Encourage Friends and Neighbours to Join
At the end of 2024, we explicitly set out to start growing our community association membership and newsletter subscription base. We now have over 250 members and our newsletter reaches over 625 people each month.
We’re hoping to get your help to register your friends and neighbours in the community by running a membership drive, featuring ✨prizes✨ for residents who encourage the most new signups (provided those people are residents living inside our Geographical Boundaries).
If you aren’t already a CA member, join today! You can still participate if you’re a brand new member.
