Upcoming Events

des Voyageurs Elementary School – Drop-in Play Social

Saturday, March 28th – 9:30 AM – 12 PM

Come out and take part in our final (cold weather) play and social event of the season. Bring an activity or some sports equipment and enjoy the morning with friends and neighbours out of the cold.

Arnold will also be thawing out the coffee cart bike (koffiekarretjefiets, or ‘coffee carriage bike’ is the Dutch term I’m being told I just made up) with coffee and treats from Almanac Bakery, with proceeds going to support the community association and future events like this.

If you’d like to help host one of these events at a local school or other venue, get in touch!

🎲 Join Our Weekly Board Game Night in Orléans!

👉 Red Dragon Comics at 7:30 PM on Thursdays (next on April 2nd; 6008 Voyageur Drive, Orléans)

Drop by and meet our friendly local board game group! We gather every Thursday at 7:30 PM at Red Dragon Comics (6008 Voyageur Drive) to enjoy a variety of modern board games—and we love welcoming new faces.

Our group is family-friendly, newcomer-friendly, and built on consistent weekly gatherings. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick game or staying the whole evening, you’ll find a warm, inclusive atmosphere where it’s easy to jump in and play.

We focus on modern board games—from strategy and engine-building to social and party games, including many newer titles—and our members are always happy to teach the rules. Beginners and experienced players alike are welcome!

We’re expecting a great turnout on April 2nd and will be featuring some fun spring-themed games 🌱

We’re also especially looking to grow our community of experienced players who enjoy teaching games and helping lead tables. If you love sharing great games and can join us regularly, we’d love to meet you!

Come join your neighbours for a fun, social evening of board gaming!

CGOW Clothing Swap

April 11th from 10am to 2pm at Bob MacQuarrie Recreational Center in Halls A & G

Bring a reusable bag (or several) and some friends, and “shop” for new-to-you items for free. Don’t have items to contribute? No problem! By attending the event and picking up items you’ll use instead of buying brand new ones, you’re helping to protect the environment and giving these items a new life!

CGOW Cleaning the Capital

Saturday April 25 from 9am – 12pm at Golden Fries (6505 Jeanne D’Arc Blvd)

Community members will come together to pick up and remove garbage from our streets, forested areas, and riverside. This event makes a tangible difference annually – last year community volunteers removed over 1,055 lbs of garbage!

Climate & Your Cash – Orleans

Saturday, Mar 7

On March 7th, the Convent Glen Orleans Wood Environment Committee co-hosted a Climate & Your Cash event at École secondaire Gisèle-Lalonde. The purpose of the event was to give practical information about how to do values-based investing, as well as how to better protect our homes from climate related events.

Environment Committee

The Case for Reusable Cloth Diapers

Gillian Cantello
Environment Committee

I was recently speaking to a woman I know who is expecting a baby and was considering using cloth diapers. She was telling me about all the different diaper options parents have nowadays.

Suburban Observations

The Eastern Ottawa Urbanism Club meets on Tuesdays over lunch.

Planning and Development Corner

Matthieu Gagnon, Vice President

In the last few weeks, we have seen a couple of new development applications come into or close to our community catchment, and Matt spent some time analyzing what kind of connectivity, amenities, and infrastructure are needed to make living in the proposed buildings great (a hint, it’s not cars).

Community Engagement

Submit Your Photos Today

The Photo and Video Archive is our attempt at a community-owned, locally-sourced repository of high-quality visuals. By building this crowdsourced repository, we are creating a shared resource that belongs to the neighbourhood.

We are looking for “stock-style” photos and/or video that captures the everyday reality of our corner of Orléans. This includes the beauty of our ravines and river paths, but also the mundane—the intersections we cross, the homes we live in, and the ways we move through the community. You could look to capture something you really love or something you seek to improve. This media allows us to make our perspective visible to the rest of the city.

Contribute Knowledge to your Community

Our new forum is designed to let community residents break out of the algorithmic traps of social media and contribute to a shared knowledge base that reflects community needs and sentiment.

Built using Discourse community software, the CGOW Forum is an online public square for a variety of topics important to our neighbourhoods, and you can even navigate and read the forum without an account.

Encourage Friends and Neighbours to Join

At the end of 2024, we explicitly set out to start growing our community association membership and newsletter subscription base. We now have over 200 members and our newsletter reaches nearly 600 people each month.

We’re hoping to get your help to register your friends and neighbours in the community by running a membership drive, featuring ✨prizes✨ for residents who encourage the most new signups (provided those people are residents living inside our Geographical Boundaries).

If you aren’t already a CA member, join today! You can still participate if you’re a brand new member.

Tell Us What’s Important to You

The Convent Glen Orleans Wood Community Association is taking some time early in 2026 to survey residents once again as part of our Strategic Plan. We have already started some initiatives that you told us were a priority on our previous survey in Fall 2024

Please take a moment to fill out the new survey to let us know how the association can contribute to a strong and vibrant community. The survey will take 5 or 10 minutes to complete.

Please fill out the survey by April 12, 2026.
