Outreach Committee Updates

Membership Drive and Contest

We are running a membership drive and contest to get more local residents engaged in the community and aware of the things the community association is working on. To make things a little more fun, you can earn points for every resident you refer to register as a member of the community association.

Joining our community association in Convent Glen Orleans Wood is a fantastic way to stay connected with your closest neighbors and be informed about upcoming initiatives and events. By becoming a member, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in local activities, share your ideas, and contribute to making our neighborhood a better place. Plus, it’s a great way to build lasting relationships and ensure you’re always in the loop about what’s happening in our community.

Community Activities Roadmap

The Community Association is trying to be more proactive about our plans and soliciting ideas and volunteers to help plan and run events. Check out what we’ve got on our radar for the coming year to see what interests you and suggest ideas to build community spirit.

The Clothing Overconsumption Crisis and What You Can Do About It

Savanna Symons, Environment Committee

Clothing overconsumption and overproduction is an urgent and yet overlooked issue. Our obsession with fast fashion can lead to overconsumption. I want to share what you as a community member can do to play a role in this issue and help protect the environment around you.

Why I’m Obsessed with My Community

Over about the last 2-3 years, I have become VERY interested in urban design. In addition to leading me on a straight path to joining the board of our community association last fall, it has also helped me to learn a LOT about the way cities work (and often, importantly, what’s going on when they don’t).

Cycling in Winter – A Viable Means of Transportation

As a community association board member, a big part of our role is to validate claims the city makes when making decisions regarding policy, development and infrastructure. The city’s transportation master plan is looking to shift trips from cars to other modes such as transit, walking and cycling. I do believe that cycling is viable for a lot of people because I have been doing it for over two years now. One common criticism of cycling is that winter is a problem. Over the last two winters, I decided to try it to see if the criticism is valid.

Bike Activism Explained

People who use a bike for transportation can sometimes be annoying…based on comments from my wife. I have been reflecting on my journey and my interactions with other people like me to try and help people understand why many people who bike for transportation care about bike-ability a lot.

New Gold-Level Community Builders – Sponsors

The Convent Glen Orleans Wood Community Association has established a partnering approach with local businesses who can support our mission and mandate. We have created affordable sponsorships that provide mutually beneficial outcomes, and we love to connect with and support local, community-oriented businesses.

This month we are welcoming two new Gold-level sponsors from the community. Check out our sponsors or get information about becoming one at cgow.ca/sponsors.
